Back in my day, we’d have to watch movies on the TV that panned and scanned. We had no other option than to watch fullscreen movies. Eventually, Letterbox VHS movies were made available but there was still a resistance from the people. They did not like the black bars. They said it was too distracting. There was even a time after DVD’s were released that I was in a Best Buy and I heard a guy say, “Widescreen? I hate that black bar shit.” He didn’t know what he was missing out on.
Kids today will never have to worry about fullscreen ever again because of HD TV’s and Blu-Ray, unless they’re spending their weekend at their grandparents house. Kids these days have it easy.
