The one thing I hate about apocalyptic movies is they’re too damn sad. I don’t want to see how miserable my life could be, I just want to drink glasses of milk and do spit takes for an hour and a half as I watch people make jokes about the end. Why can’t the end of the world be happy and ha-larious?
Well it looks like the universe was listening, made a CliffsNotes and handed it to Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine because we now have a movie.
“Diani & Devine Productions has released the first teaser trailer for the film “Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse,” an indie feature comedy set during the collapse of civilization.
Written by and starring Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine (“The Selling,” “Huck Finn [Robotic Edition]”), the film is an apocalyptic comedy in the spirit of the old Bob Hope and Bing Crosby “road” movies about two struggling comedians who discover that surviving the apocalypse is almost as difficult as surviving Hollywood.
The production raised more than $100,000 in funds through crowdfunding platform Kickstarter and features performances from Barry Bostwick (“Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Spin City”), Harry Groener (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Dear John”), Arye Gross (“Castle”), Robert Pine (“CHiPs”), Armin Shimerman (“Star Trek: Deep Space 9,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Jonathan Silverman (“Weekend at Bernie’s”), Amir Talai (“Harold & Kumar,” “Kung Fu Panda”), Janet Varney (“The Legend of Korra, Burning Love,” “Key and Peele”) and Kirsten Vangsness (“Criminal Minds”) among others.
The film is approaching completion and will be hitting the festival circuit within the next year. In addition to the teaser premier, the filmmakers have opened up pre-orders of the finished film and continue to make select incentives from the Kickstarter campaign (including producer credits and exclusive “Star Trek” episode commentaries) available via ddmta.com.
ABOUT DIANI & DEVINE PRODUCTIONS

Co-produced by and co-starring Devine, THE SELLING is available on DVD/VOD and just had its television premiere on Comcast’s Fearnet in April.
